Components
I have been fortunate over the past 32 years as an amputee to have been able to wear a vast majority of prosthetic feet as well as below-knee systems. This personal experience allows me to explain the pros and cons of the various components in a way that most amputees can relate to. I have resources in the field to gain experience with most any other component that I have not personally used. This gives my clients a wealth of knowledge that is critical when trying to decide which of the myriad of different types of systems to use.My personal philosophy has evolved over the years. I used to be enamored with all of the newest and latest in prosthetic gadgets that came along. What I eventually found was that I wanted a prosthesis that was reliable and comfortable. In my private practice I have always used components that were of the highest quality. I cannot control whether someone's stump will change but I can control whether a coupler or pylon will break. Only the best will do for my clients.
I am also not a systems prosthetist. That is, I do not believe in utilizing one manufacturer's products exclusively. I create hybrid prostheses using whatever components will produce the best prosthesis for the individual. I don't get the big discounts from manufacturers but I make prostheses that work for the amputee.
